Your Luxury Escape

Life's too short for ordinary holidays, you deserve the chance to escape

Croft House

You can enjoy the best of both worlds at Croft House. Get out and about on the rolling landscape of Simonside, the majestic hills above the market town of Rothbury. Or snuggle up indoors and look out from the picture windows across the vast vistas and huge skies of the rolling Northumberland countryside.

The open plan kitchen and dining room is a natural heart of the cottage, with a dining table and designer chairs, and a large window beyond. You could spend a perfect evening here, chatting around the Everhot range cooker while the young ones enjoy the table football or watch television in the games room. After a meal round the large dining table, why not relax into the large sofas of the living room and get a fire going in the wood burning stove.

Croft House is ideally situated for exploring the west of Northumberland. If you enjoy window shopping, Rothbury and Alnwick are both charming traditional market towns, while the history buffs amongst you might enjoy a visit to one of the many castles and stately homes in the area. And if you want to get active during your stay, there are walks and cycle paths galore through this magnificent countryside. At the end of a refreshing day out, you’ll have a delightful home-from-home to come back to.

Attractions and nearby amenities

  • Croft House is within walking distance of the Simonside Hills, where you’ll find plenty of walks with spectacular views over the rolling hills and down into the Coquet Valley below. There are mountain bike trails too, and you can hire bikes locally in Rothbury.
  • Rothbury itself is a charming market town, with picturesque sandstone buildings and the River Coquet bubbling along through the centre. Another town worth a visit is Alnwick, with its original stone wall gatehouse. If you enjoy reading then make sure to pop into Barter Books, supposedly the UK’s largest second-hand bookshop and also the home of the original ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ poster.
  • Just beyond Rothbury is the National Trust property Cragside House. This grand Victorian house was the first ever private dwelling to have its own electricity, and there’s always plenty to see and do here. The gardens are lovely too – keep your eyes peeled for red squirrels!
  • The Alnwick Garden at Alnwick Castle is a favourite destination for green-fingered visitors as well as being a great venue for the little ones, with a huge tree house and a fascinating Poison Garden.
  • Alnwick Castle is just one of the castles that Northumberland is famous for. Head north up the coast and you’ll find Bamburgh Castle, occupying one of the most majestic and photogenic landscapes in the country. This spectacular castle is home to over 1,400 years of history.
  • Wallington Hall dates back to the fifteenth century, but has been rebuilt over the years. The huge estate here has ornamental woods and lawns to wander through. In the house itself you’ll find antique dolls houses and murals depicting the history of the area.
